MAXINE- under overflaten, mellom lagene

Verket MAXINE- under overflaten, mellom lagene utvikles som del av dekonstruksjonen av et råttent hus hvor et nytt konstrueres på grunnmuren til det gamle. Henriette Blakstad, kunstnerisk leder for HenBlakstad river og bygger huset samtidig som hun konstruerer konseptet MAXINE-: "Jeg er byggleder, snekker, dramatiker og sanger, en tverrfaglig kunstner som river hjemmet mitt for å ferdigstille kulturarenaen, PÅ HØYDEN. Et hus som hadde gnagere i veggene og taket, og sopp under gulvet."
Metaforisk ble drivkraften i dekonstruksjonen og kontruksjonen av huset så sterk at det utviklet seg et tekstlig, musiklalsk absurd drømmespill hvor naturens møte med kulturen eskalerte til en eksplosiv helomvending, en katarsis av et lesbisk drama.
En historie om en heteronormativ cis- kvinne med skjult skeiv identitet i møte med sitt alter ego Maxine Love som skeiv hun/dem. Maxine som skjønner at transformasjonen fra hetero til lesbisk krever et offer. Om å ofre en hetero familie, om å forlate et barn i kompleksiteten av lesbisk likekjønnede foreldreskap som medmor.

MAXINE-, er influert av Ibsens, Lille Eyolf som en gjennomgående skyggeskikkelse hvor barnet ofres for å avdekke livsløgnene. Dette i møte med Ailo Gaups bok, Sjamansonen om bl.a. bjørneritualet. Om veien til en ny begynnelse hvor det som ikke er i orden skal dø mens man fortsatt er i live.

Konseptet er for en site- specific arena i Grenland og Fredrikstad og er i co- produksjon med Grenland Friteater og Studium Actoris. De siste fire årene har Blakstad jobbet som byggleder og snekker i et hus kjøpt i skogen på Nesodden. Stedet, PÅ HØYDEN, ferdigstilles våren 2025 og vil være en prøve- og spill arena i tilknytning til Oslo hvor verket vil vises.

Konseptet består av flere faser:
- Tekster av Blakstad utvikles som lyddrama sammen med dramaturg, Rosvoll og lyddesigner, Hildebrand som del av tekstutviklingen til MAXINE- under overflaten, mellom lagene, og som selvstendig verk som vil publiseres på MAXIME- skeiv dramatikk i podcastformat på Spotify som sesong 2.
Podcasten er driftet av HenBlakstad.

- Musikk komposisjonen, et samarbeid mellom samtidsmusiker med røtter i samisk tradisjon Johan Sara jr. fra Máze i Finnmark og sanger Henriette Blakstad vil danne musikk underlaget for verket og stå som selvstendig konsertmateriale. Duoen jobber innen rituell samisk stemmebruk, strupesang, overtoner, pust og dynamikk.

MAXINE- beneath the surface, between the layers
The work MAXINE – Beneath the Surface, Between the Layers is being developed as part of the deconstruction of a decayed house, where a new one is being constructed on the foundation of the old. Henriette Blakstad, artistic director of HenBlakstad, simultaneously demolishes and rebuilds the house while shaping the concept of MAXINE-: "I´m a construction manager, carpenter, playwright, and singer—a multidisciplinary artist tearing down my home to complete the cultural arena, PÅ HØYDEN. A house that had rodents in the walls and ceiling, and mold under the floors.”
Metaphorically, the driving force behind the deconstruction and construction of the house became so intense that it evolved into a textual, musical, and absurd dream play where the clash between nature and culture escalated into an explosive reversal—a catharsis of a lesbian drama.
A story about a heteronormative cis-woman with a hidden queer identity encountering her alter ego, Maxine Love, as a queer she/they figure. Maxine realizes that the transformation from heterosexual to lesbian demands a sacrifice. It’s about sacrificing a heterosexual family, about leaving a child in the complexities of same-sex lesbian parenting as a co-mother.
MAXINE is influenced by Ibsen’s Little Eyolf, which serves as a recurring shadow figure where the child is sacrificed to expose life’s lies. This is juxtaposed with Ailo Gaup’s book, Shaman’s Journey, which includes the bear ritual. It’s about the path to a new beginning, where what is not in order must die while one is still alive.
It’s about awakening the bear, looking the beast in the eyes, and killing it. Seeing the animal, becoming the animal, and being the bear.
The concept is intended for a site-specific arena in Grenland and Fredrikstad and is co-produced with Grenland Friteater and Studium Actoris. Over the past four years, Blakstad has worked as a construction manager and carpenter in a house she bought in the woods of Nesodden. The venue, PÅ HØYDEN, will be completed in the spring of 2025 and will serve as a rehearsal and performance arena near Oslo, where the work will be staged.

The concept consists of several phases:
- Texts by Blakstad are developed as audio drama in collaboration with dramaturg Rosvoll and sound designer Hildebrand as part of the text development for MAXINE - Beneath the Surface, Between the Layers, and as an independent work that will be published on MAXIME - Queer Drama in podcast format on Spotify as season 2.
The podcast is produced by HenBlakstad.

- A visual sound installation, a collaboration between cinematographer Lucacel, sound designer Hildebrand, performer, and the concept of Blakstad, where the audio dramas serve as the basis for development.

- The music composition, a collaboration between contemporary musician with roots in Sámi tradition Johan Sara Jr. from Máze in Finnmark and singer Henriette Blakstad, will form the musical foundation for the work and stand as independent concert material. The duo works within ritual Sámi vocal techniques, throat singing, overtones, breath, and dynamics.
